The Client

This firm was formed as a development company in 1993 to provide decision support, advisory and related services to the Information Technology industry. The market for the company's services is currently served by Gartner Group and Meta Group (user-oriented advisory services) and by IDC and Dataquest (vendor-oriented data services); market constituencies currently include large and medium size users of IT, computer and telecom vendors, and institutional investors. The information market exceeds $600m world-wide, abetted by a revolution in the technologies used to search, retrieve, filter and refine information. The firm seeks competitive advantage through an innovative paradigm which optimizes internal and external resources as well as technology in its architecture. This firm is designed to address product and marketing gaps left unfilled by its competitors. The firm's new research process itself results in services offering high value to its customers, designed to provide the following benefits to clients:

  1. Save money through better timing of investments related to capacity requirements, new product directions and changing business strategies;
  2. Save money by knowing and understanding the strategies of vendors, and by accessing an experience base of business practices and previous negotiations, thus allowing for better short- and long-term negotiation strategies;
  3. Obtain additional "opinions" prior to decision-making, or obtain confirmation and support for proposed decisions;
  4. Develop better strategic plans and audit existing plans against a library of credible assumptions regarding IT directions;
  5. Improve the job effectiveness of in-house IT professionals; and
  6. Obtain insights into challenges, job functions and strategies utilized by other enterprises.

IT vendors will receive an additional set of capabilities, including market intelligence, competitive analysis, market and product positioning, and end-user information (what they are saying and doing). IT investors will particularly benefit from the understanding of critical trends affecting user and vendor operations, vendor strategies, product announcement cycles, investment alternatives, and acquisition activities. The Position: Analysts across all Technology Competencies The analytical staff will define, in their areas of expertise, the direction and tone of the firm's research. They will also be responsible for the quality and relevance of the research. Analysts will maintain a high profile in the industry through personal networking and day-to-day contacts, speaking engagements at industry and company-sponsored conferences, and attribution in trade and business publications. Each analyst will work closely with the Vice President of Research to ensure synchronicity of the research process and tools with the research agenda. Areas of expertise include Personal Computing, Client/Server, Open Systems, Servers, Networks, Software, Services, Emerging Technologies, Digital World, and Management of IT.
